This course serves as a foundational course in one aspect of personal finance: practical budgeting. It provides a conceptual framework for the financial decision-making process on creating and continuously implementing budgets. This course also introduces different practical strategies on how to budget properly to ensure that you will stick to your original plan. Some of the topics include a quick summary and purpose of a budget; how to keep a budget simple; the need for a flexible budget (have at least 3 budgets: best case, worst case scenario, and most likely); how often to check your budget; how to interpret your first month of budgeting; when to incorporate all of your monthly expenses; adding investment amounts to your budget; buckets of money; incorporating fun money; how to deal with not meeting your budget; pinpointing the budget’s weak spots; and the imperfections of budgeting.

It provides a conceptual framework for how to educate your children on the basic essentials of wealth management (including money). This course also introduces different practical strategies on how to ensure that your children will get a good early financial education even when the subject is not taught in their school. Some of the topics include a basic introduction to finance; an overview of money; an overview of business and entrepreneurship; the need for children to have many jobs with different employers; should kids have credit cards; investments; a discussion on assets and debt; the importance of business math; should your child use calculators or just learn old fashioned math; the importance of being aware of financial scams; why kids should learn how to use percents; survival’s connection to finance; and what finance books to read when children become adults.
